We stayed at the cottages for a week for a family break. The cottages are well situated for enjoying the area, but we found issues with cleanliness as others have reported on here sadly and a few other disappointments that really let the place down. Re cleanliness, see the photos I’ve uploaded. There was a heavy amount of dust on the bed frames, which caused problems for my partners asthma. They haven’t been cleaned in a long time to get dust that thick. There was also a worrying stain on the bedsheets for the main bed. Not good when everything is meant to be cleaned for Covid! This caused us to question whether the place is cleaned sufficiently for the virus or not as such basics clearly show a lack of care. We also noticed a lot of cobwebs around the house within ‘hoovers reach’. On its own not a massive issue as I understand that spiders will be busy at this time of year, but there were a lot and coupled with the above it again caused me to question the cleanliness of the cottage. We had arrived after 5pm on our day of arrival as requested to allow for extra cleaning, which caused us some inconvenience with a toddler, but this didn’t seem to make a difference sadly. The place wasn’t clean. The cottage we stayed in could do with some care. One bedroom window has a large gap between the window and the frame, across the top, letting cold air in. Not too bad on warm nights, but colder nights are a problem. Another bedroom window doesn’t close & stay shut due to a damaged locking mechanism which is scary when you have toddlers with you as the window is low to the ground and on the second floor. There was a damaged chair in the bedroom too which again on its own isn’t a big issue but with the rest of the maintenance issues in mind it gives the impression that these places don’t receive a lot of care. The bathroom was excellent. The shower and the modern bathroom suite was great too. A big bonus in a place of this size. The inclusion of a dishwasher over a clothes washer is a strange idea. In a small place a dishwasher seems pointless. But a washer would be better for self catering family holidays. I know there’s a shared washer on site, but with Covid we didn’t fancy trying to find this as it didn’t seem a safe idea. We had trouble with storage. It’s a small place. While lovely, if you have kids or there’s more than 2 of you, you may find that the cottages advertised for 5 people are really more suited for 2 or 3 at a push. When you have a pram and other items such as coats, shoes and general items with you, you’ll find there’s not really many places to store them. 5 people here would not be comfortable. We had a few days on the beach and our child’s clothes were wet. Apart from the communal dryer, again we didn’t risk it due to covid, there was literally nowhere to hang his clothes to dry. This for any parent with young children is a problem. The furniture etc was comfortable and parking was great. However, the signs / entrances for the place could be better. When coming back from Flamborough you’ll find it’s easy to miss the drive as it’s not obvious at all. We did, three times on a week, especially at night! The playground is ok. It’s quite basic. Our 2 year old enjoyed most of it, but parts of it weren’t suitable for him. As for older kids, I suspect they’d be bored on it quickly. If they included a slide and some swings this space would be excellent. The tables are good for eating outside. The petting area was closed due to covid. This was odd. Every farm, hall, attraction in the area allows you to feed the animals and pet them, but this place doesn’t and said it was due to covid when we asked in the shop for animal feed. A very odd decision and a disappointment as one of the reasons we chose this place was for the mention of a petting area on the website - but no mention of it being closed when we booked. The tearoom is very basic. I was told by relatives in the area that this gets busy. I’m not sure why. They currently have a very limited menu due to covid and the prices seem high for what you get. We went for breakfast and could only have bacon or sausage sandwiches which came to over £20! We didn’t go back and found other places nearby had full menus operating and were better value. The farm shop is nice but again, nothing special. The local coop has essentials. The farm shop is mainly novelty items. Again this gets very busy with people pulling in all the time to use it. We had to queue for around 5 minutes to get in. Fair enough to queue in the current situation, but just bear in mind if staying here that you’ll need to bring basics with you. The donkeys will wake you up at 6am, but it’s a working farm so we expected this. And weirdly, we all enjoyed this happening. It’s nice hearing this sound and a nice ‘countryside experience’. The cottage is also warm. We found we didn’t need the heating on, it was comfortable without it. Noise was a bit of an issue. The walls between the cottages don’t stop noise. We heard our neighbours moving in at around 2200 until 2300 which kept us awake. We could also hear the dogs barking and making noise. That’s an issue with guests, but worth noting that if your neighbours are noisy, you’ll certainly hear them! Re the dogs, we chose this place as the website we booked via (Hoseasons) said no dogs allowed. One of our party is allergic to dogs so it’s better to find places where dogs don’t stay. Yet we noticed at least two families with dogs while we were here in a week. Worth noting for dog allergy sufferers. We will be returning to the area as it’s excellent for children and adults alike. And this place is very well situation for accessing it all, however it just feels a little unloved and like it needs some TLC to make it better. The lack of proper cleaning is also a big put off. As it stands we won’t be returning to the cottages, the shop or the tearoom. There are other places that appear better in the immediate area due to the little let downs mentioned above and sadly I can not recommend staying here.…
